Before you apply
It's a good idea to do a credit assessment on yourself before you apply. Visit the Centrix website to do your own credit assessment, your score will need to be rated fair, average, very good or excellent to apply. It doesn't impact your credit score and could save you time.
You'll need to meet the following eligibility and lending criteria:
-
Be at least 18 years old
-
Be a New Zealand citizen or a Resident Visa holder living in New Zealand or hold a relevant Working Visa*. For applicants on Working Visas, you must have an annual gross income of $70,000 per year to be eligible to apply
-
Be able to meet your credit card repayments by having enough money left over after your expenses are paid
-
Have a good credit history – we’ll carry out a credit check as part of your application
If you are in financial difficulty, we're here to help. See our financial hardship page for more information.
To increase your credit limit on your existing credit card or change to another card type, see our managing your card page.
What you'll need to provide us
As part of your application we'll need to verify your income and who you are. If you're already with us, we'll have some of these details already.
-
Financial information
We'll need some details about what you earn, what you spend and what you owe. This will include:
- Income
- Household expenses - like rent, food and electricity
- Any financial obligations you might have - like loans, overdrafts or other credit cards.
Having three months worth of recent bank statements handy can help you to complete these details.
-
Proof of income
Once your application has been submitted we'll need to verify your income. We’ll email you if there’s anything else we need from you to consider your application:
- If your income is paid to an account with another bank, you’ll need to send us three months’ worth of bank statements in PDF format.
- You don’t need to provide bank statements if your income is paid to a Kiwibank account.
- If you’re self-employed then you’ll need to attach your IR3 for the most recent financial year to verify your income.
-
Proof of identity
If you're new to Kiwibank, you'll need to provide proof of your identity and address. You can do this:
