Dedicated team
Our dedicated Customer Protection tīma (team) performs a range of services to ensure the security of our online banking services including:
- monitoring online banking and card transactions for any unusual activity
- regularly reporting on cyber security to our regulators and CERT NZ
- keeping track of fraud trends affecting the banking industry
- helping customers who've been victims of fraud and working with the New Zealand Police to help make sure offenders are caught
- providing advice to customers who have security concerns
- looking out for new technologies that could enhance security for our customers.
Confirmation of Payee
Confirmation of Payee checks if the account owner name matches the account number of the person or business you're paying. This helps ensure you're paying the right person or business and adds an extra layer of protection against scams and fraud. If the check returns 'Not a match', it's important to verify the payee's details and identity. Proceeding with a payment could result in sending money to the wrong place, which may not be recoverable.
The Confirmation of Payee service applies to payments between New Zealand banks when using our mobile app or internet banking. It is not available for international payments, business-to-business transactions, phone payments and in-branch transfers.

We'll never ask you to disclose your internet banking login details by email or by clicking on a link within an email. If you think you’ve been sent an email that doesn’t look like it’s from us, don't respond or click on any links – please forward it to suspicious.email@kiwibank.co.nz.
