Summer holiday information
Over the summer break, our contact centre and branch hours may differ to usual hours to enable our team to take a break with friends and whanau. Payment times may also vary over the holiday period.
ATM's, our mobile app, internet banking and phone banking are all available 24/7. Remember - you can block and unblock your credit card directly from within the app if you lose your card over summer.
Payments between Kiwibank accounts
Kiwibank to Kiwibank payments or transfers are processed immediately – including on weekends and public holidays.
If you're making a payment or transfer to a Kiwibank Credit Card, your credit card balance will automatically update the 'available balance'. The 'owing balance' won't update until the next business day. Public holidays don't affect timings when it comes to transferring money from a Kiwibank account to a Kiwibank Credit Card. Please note that if payments are made at certain times outside of ordinary business hours, the update to your ‘available balance’ and/or ‘owing balance’ may be delayed by up to two business days.
Money going out
Automatic payments
Automatic payments and future dated payments are processed around 10am on the due date.
If there’s not enough money in your account, we’ll try the payment again at 10pm the same day, then again at 10am and 10pm on the next day, if needed. If your payment fails four times, it won't be processed.
Direct debits
Direct debits are processed overnight – they’re the last thing we do each day, to make sure you receive any deposits before we send out your payments. Practically, this means the funds leave your account sometime in the middle of the night – the exact time varies each day.
Payments to other banks
Single payments to other banks are sent every hour between 9am and midnight every day. Payments made after midnight will be sent after 9am.
Bulk payments to other banks marked 'Send now' are processed hourly between 9am and 11:30pm.
Bulk payments to other banks marked 'Send after 6pm' will be processed around 6pm on the due date. All payments received after 6pm will be sent hourly until 11:30pm.
Payments made after 11:30pm will be processed after 9am the next day.
When the recipient receives the payment depends on the receiving bank’s processing timeframes.
If you need to make an urgent payment to another bank on a business day, you can make a same-day cleared payment. It takes no more than 60 minutes from the time funds are taken from your bank account to the time the money appears in the bank account of the person you're paying.

Payments from other banks
Payments from your customers are paid into your account when they’re received, between 9am and midnight. This means there's no set time a payment will show up in your account.
