Prime Minister John Key today formally opened Kiwibank’s new regional office in Hastings. The office has been set up to ensure there is business continuity in the event of a disaster or emergency in the bank’s main offices in Wellington and Auckland.
The office will employ more than a hundred staff performing core banking functions. Chief Executive Paul Brock said that if there was a major issue in Wellington or Auckland there would be no disruption to banking services.
Opening the office Mr Key noted it was four years since the devastating earthquake in Christchurch and that lessons learned from that and other events show just how important business continuity really is.
Mr Key also said that it was a welcome return by big business to the regions rather than just concentrating in Auckland and Wellington.
