We were born in 2002 and have grown up fast. Since then, we've left the New Zealand Post nest and have become the country's biggest New Zealand owned bank, working hard to help make Kiwi better off.
Below are some key milestones we've had along the way, starting with the most recent.
2024 – 2025

- We launched On the Ladder with Kiwibank, our TV series showcasing the unconventional pathways Kiwi are exploring to get into home ownership.
- We received Canstar's Bank of the Year – Business Bank Accounts Award again in 2024, making it three years in a row.
- We partnered with Tower to provide House, Contents, Car and specialist insurance options.
- We released our first Climate Statement.
- We proudly announced our partnership with Pride Pledge.
- We launched our 'Parenthood Package', our market-leading parental leave benefit.
- We partnered with Frances Cook on her independent podcast, Making Cents, in a move to empower Kiwi to take control of their financial future.
- We partnered with Paddy Gower, who also got into co-owning property as a way to get on the ladder.
- We reached nearly half a million primary and secondary school students through our partner Banqer over the last eight years.
2022 – 2023

- We turned 20 and celebrated with over one million customers.
- We launched our new brand which pays homage to our past and represents who we want to be in the future.
- We won the INFINZ Hunter Campbell ESG Award for our commitment to sustainability.
- We partnered with Sarah Hirini, Ngāti Kahungunu, Olympic, world and national rugby player in a newly shaped role of Whatu Kōkiri, Kiwibank Impact Champion.
- The Kiwi Group (KGHL) announced the sale of Kiwi Wealth to Fisher Funds. The New Zealand Government also announced that it had acquired 100% of the ownership of KGHL from NZ Post, ACC and NZ Super.
- We received Canstar's 2022 Bank of the Year – Business Bank Accounts Award in 2022 and 2023.
2018 – 2021

- In 2021, KGHL announced the sale of its life insurance business, Kiwi Insurance Limited, to nib.
- We became the first bank in New Zealand to use recycled plastic in all our cards.
- We became a B Corporation™ certified company.
- We received Canstar's 2021 Bank of the Year - Home Loans Award.
- We went cheque-free.
- We implemented the Responsible Business Banking Policy.
- We formed partnerships with Emirates Team New Zealand, Stepping UP, Manaaki, Mentemia and Gumboot Friday.
- We contributed $100,000 to the I Am Hope campaign to offer young Kiwi free counselling.
- We received Canstar's First Home Buyer Bank of the Year Award in 2018 for the eighth consecutive year straight.
- We gained the Rainbow Tick, Gender Tick, and Living Wage accreditations.
2015 – 2017

- Kiwibank standalone branches are rolled out in communities around the country.
- We launched QuickPay, a device that lets business banking customers take EFTPOS, Visa and Mastercard® payments through a smartphone and get paid anywhere, anytime.
- We formed partnerships with Banqer, the Department of Conservation, Aviva and Ākina Foundation.
- We got Banqer into 1,000 Kiwi schools.
- We explored New Zealanders’ relationship with money in the hit TV show, Mind Over Money with Nigel Latta and TVNZ.
2012 – 2014

- We turned 10 and reached over 800,000 customers.
- Our mobile app launched, changing how customers bank online.
- Our sister company, Kiwi Wealth (at the time part of the Kiwi Group), bought Gareth Morgan Investments.
- We partnered with Ngā Tāngata Microfinance Trust to support them to deliver no fee no interest micro-loans to Kiwi in need.
- Kiwi Insurance (no longer an entity) received its full licence, simplifying the way life insurance can be packaged for our customers.
- Kiwi Group Holdings Limited purchased the remaining shares in New Zealand Home Loans (NZHL), buying it outright.
2009 – 2011

- We sponsored the New Zealander of the Year Awards for the first time.
- We were voted New Zealand’s most trusted bank by Readers Digest in 2011, for the sixth year in a row.
- We purchased an asset finance business which became Kiwi Asset Finance Limited to provide vehicle, plant and equipment loans for business customers.
2006 – 2008

- We were the first New Zealand bank to launch real-time mobile banking.
- Kiwi Group Holdings Limited significantly invested in New Zealand Home Loans (NZHL).
- We were awarded the most improved performance and fastest growing employer, by Deloitte.
- We reached 600,000 customers.
2002 – 2005

- Kiwibank was born, providing banking services via PostShops throughout New Zealand.
- In two short years, we exceeded 250,000 customers.
- Our business banking offering launched.
